Just For Kids
Keeping Teeth Healthy from the Start
We love having children in our office! That's because we
like knowing that they're getting the right kind of dental
attention from an early age, enabling us to note minor problems
and prevent them from becoming big ones. Typically, we recommend
that parents bring their children in at around 3 years of
age, unless their pediatrician sees a specific dental concern
earlier.
Children love to be at our office, as well! That's because
we do all we can to make their first dental experience a fun
one. They get to "ride" in our special "space
chair", look in their mouth with a special "flashlight"
and mirror and check out how many teeth they have with our
"tooth counter". Then, we polish their teeth with
a special toothpaste, give them "tooth vitamins"
(fluoride treatment) and stickers, and take them for a quick
trip to the treasure chest.
Every time a child has a 'no cavity visit', or at whatever
time they're pronounced 'cavity free', we take their picture
and post it on our "NO CAVITY CLUB" board.
Plus, we give them an authentic certificate of 'no cavities'
from our doctors and hygienist.
Rarely, a child needs extensive treatment or is unable to
cope with the dental office environment. In such case, we're
equipped to offer in-office sedation and/or Nitrous Oxide.
We also recommend that the child bring in their favorite music
to listen to during treatment. If, despite these measures,
a child is still anxious and unable to handle the situation,
we'll refer them to an excellent local Pediatric Specialist
who is able to offer I.V. sedation to help them relax. We
never use physical restraint for any reason, ensuring that
the child has only positive memories of their dental experiences.
